Responding to reports that Ministers are looking at a whole range of additional tax options for local government, Edward Davey MP, Liberal Democrat Local Government Spokesman said:
"By wasting time looking at a multitude of new taxes, Ministers are delaying reform, whilst pensioners continue to pay unfair bills.
"People don't want a whole host of new taxes. They just want fairness, and a tax related to ability to pay.
"A local income tax is the most simple, fair and transparent solution.
"Even Labour and Conservative councillors on the Local Government Association appear to be waking up to that.
"It's time Labour listened and got the message on council tax."
