The residents of East Walworth and Southwark are getting a better deal in the 20 months since the Lib Dems took over running the Council in 2002. The independent Audit Commission rating of the Lib Dem Council went from 'weak' to 'fair' in December 2003. We narrowly missed out on 'good'. Under Labour it was 'poor'.
The Local Government Chronicle Awards 2004 have shortlisted the Lib Dem run Council for: Most Improved Council of the Year, Finance team of the Year, Local Democracy Initiative of the Year (Community Councils) and Joined-up Government Initiative of the Year (Community Safety).
Southwark Council has also been shortlisted for Beacon Status (special Government accolade for excellent services) for Housing Renewal and Community Safety.
Housing awards include: Quality Mark from the Legal Services Commission for our Housing Advice (April 2003), and Chartermark status awarded for excellence in customer services (Dec 2002).
