Following Councillor Skelly's irrational behaviour at Wednesday evenings Education & Youth Scrutiny Sub-Committee the Liberal Democrat Group Leadership have taken swift and decisive action.
By lunchtime Thursday 2nd December Councillor Nicholas Stanton, Leader of Southwark Council demanded that Councillor Skelly resign as Executive Member for Education, which Councillor Skelly did immediately.
On the evening of Friday 3rd December the Liberal Democrat Group Officers held an emergency meeting where a unanimous decision was made to suspend Councillor Skelly with immediate effect from the Liberal Democrat Group on Southwark Council.
Councillor Nicholas Stanton, Leader of Liberal Democrat run Southwark Council said;
"Whatever personal health problems Cllr Skelly may be going through, we still cannot condone his highly inappropriate response to a scrutiny committee and the serious issues they deal with. We will not tolerate offensive comments from any member of the Liberal Democrat Group.
"We have moved swiftly, decisively and strongly and will continue to do so on such important matters."

1. Councillor Skelly's suspension will be ratified at a Group meeting on Wednesday 8th December
2. An internal disciplinary sub-group will meet to discuss what further action, if any, should be taken against Councillor Skelly.
