If you don't have a computer at home, but need to use the world-wide-web quickly, Southwark's Liberal Democrat Council has taken steps to help by installing kiosks in public places like outside the Walworth Town Hall. There is now a network of nine i+ kiosks across the Borough "I wish we could afford more, because they've proved very popular" said Cllr James Gurling.
With an easy to use screen anyone can find out about local services, what's on, where to get help and even what the weather's going to be like. You can also plan a journey, look for a job, e-mail your councillor or send a postcard to a friend. All free of charge.
More and more services and information are provided on the web and making sure that as many people as possible can access them is what these i+ kiosks are all about. There are strict Government targets about e-Government and the Lib Dems are determined that people in Southwark shouldn't have to miss out.
The kiosks will also help take pressure off other information points in our busy libraries and housing offices .
"People shouldn't be afraid of using them. They're really easy to use, so I'd encourage people, next time they 're on the Walworth Road to try it out!"
The kiosks have been carefully positioned in busy open areas where users' security is at a premium. Many are covered by CCTV. If the one in Walworth is busy another i point can be found near-by in the Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre. Others can be found at Southwark Town Hall; the tourist information centre in Vinopolis; Tate Modern; Shakespeare's Globe; Rye Lane Peckham; and on the Blue, in Southwark Park Road Bermondsey.
