East Walworth councillors Neil Watson, Jane Salmon and Cathy Bowman have worked to make housing transfers easier
Local Liberal Democrats have delivered on their promise to make the housing transfer system in Southwark fairer and easier to understand.
Southwark Homesearch is the new scheme which has been running for the last few months. It allows anyone who's registered on the housing list a chance to make a bid for every property the council has to let. A fortnightly magazine lists all the properties that are available - copies are in housing offices and your local library. Bids can be made by phone or on the internet.
David Gustave has welcomed the improvements to the housing transfer service
"The new system is much fairer and much more transparent," says Southwark campaigner David Gustave. "It allows people to choose where they'd like to live rather than just being told by the Council."

The one thing that the new system cannot do is create more homes, but the Lib Dems are taking steps to deal with this as well. They have demanded that half the homes on every new housing development in Southwark must now be affordable. Incredibly Labour and Conservative councillors opposed this!
