Southwark Council's Executive Member for Sport, Liberal Democrat councillor Columba Blango has announced a full review into youth and sports provision in the Peckham Rye area.
At an event on Saturday to open the newly refurbished Peckham Rye Park following a £3.5m restoration, Cllr Blango announced that he wanted the council to speak directly to young people in the area to find out exactly what they would like to see and what facilities they would make the best use of.
"The newly refurbished park is a wonderful boost to the area, but young people should have a say in what they want to see locally. Too often authorities provide facilities without asking young people what they want. That is just a waste of everyone's time and money. I will be launching a full review into youth and sports facilities in the area and I will ensure that young people will have their chance to influence the outcome," he said.
Local Lib Dem Focus Team member and parent Neil Parker added: "I have spoken to a lot of people locally who are really keen to see better facilities for our children and teenagers. I am delighted that the council is really prepared to listen to what young people want to see in our area."
