Comment by Nick Stanton on Thameslink 2000 decision

Commenting on the announcement by the Government that they have given legal powers and planning consents to Network Rail for the Thameslink 2000 scheme, Cllr Nick Stanton, Liberal Democrat Leader of Southwark Council, said:

"Although we welcome the project moving forward we remain of the view that the public transport benefits of this scheme could have been achieved without the decimating effect that these plans will have on Borough Market."

"Since no funding for the scheme is yet in place, we will be working with Network Rail to try to mitigate the worst effects of the plan as it stands."
