A Southwark Councillor has written to the Prime Minister asking him to disown local Labour candidate Cllr Kirsty McNeill over her opposition to green energy measures.
East Walworth Liberal Democrat Councillor Jane Salmon has written her letter after Cllr McNeill's knee-jerk opposition to plans to trial a small wind turbine on the roof of one of the Heygate Estate blocks.
"It is incredible that when the Prime Minister is extolling the need for action to tackle climate change, Cllr McNeill is so opposed to Southwark doing our bit," said Jane Salmon. "I have asked that the Prime Minister disown his errant councillor who appears to be an embarrassment to his Party."
"This small experimental turbine will be trialled to see if we could save energy bills for our tenants and do a small bit to save the planet. Not only does Cllr McNeill seem to be going against Labour Party policy, but she is also acting against the best interests of her constituents and of the planet."
"Southwark Council is doing all that it can to make sure that this pilot programme will not have an adverse effect on local residents. The flat below the turbine will be kept empty and noise closely monitored, although we believe it will not be an issue. Any concerns will of course be addressed through the planning process before the turbine is installed."
