The Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary has stepped into the fight over the future of three of Southwark's police stations. Nick Clegg MP gave his backing to the Liberal Democrat campaign after a trip to Camberwell.
"I was appalled to learn that Camberwell Police Station will be closed," said Nick Clegg MP. "It is vital that the Government provides targeted support and not simply more 'get tough' rhetoric. A good way to start this process would be to ensure that Camberwell, and areas like it, is given an effective, visible police presence round the clock."
Nick Clegg's comments were welcomed by Southwark Council Leader Nick Stanton:
"I am delighted that Nick Clegg has backed our campaign to keep open Camberwell, Rotherhithe and East Dulwich Police stations. Keeping recognisable and accessible local police stations is a vital part of ensuring community safety."
