Lib Dem leadership candidate Nick Clegg MP this week visited Riverside ward to add his support to Anood Al-Samerai's by-election campaign.
Mr Clegg joined Anood and current Lib Dem Riverside councillors Nick Stanton and Eliza Mann in visiting the Potters Field site and the old Tower Bridge Police station which was closed by Labour. Local party members and councillors then joined Mr Clegg to canvass local residents.
Commenting, Mr Clegg said:
"Anood will make a fantastic representative for the area. She has spent four years helping Bermondsey people with their problems through her work for Simon Hughes and I'm confident that if she is elected Anood will carry on the great work in the Town Hall.
"Lib Dems have been campaigning against crime and anti social behaviour both in the ward and across Southwark. We want more police on the streets, and tough action against persistent offenders, but we also need projects like the Salmon Youth Centre to give kids things to do to keep them off the streets in the first place.
"Labour talks tough on crime, but when it comes to the crunch they have been weak on tackling the causes of crime."
