This week Simon Hughes met the Mexican President, Felipe Calderon, and his wife, Señora Zavala, in the Houses of Parliament. Simon was invited in his capacity as vice-chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Mexico. Simon has many Central Americans in his constituency and has maintained an interest in fostering close relations between Mexico and the UK.
Simon met the Mr Calderon shortly after the President had made a speech to the British Council in which he outlined the need for global co-operation in combating climate change. He emphasised that we are entering a new era for international climate change policy, one in which developing countries must also take responsibility for the world's environmental goals.
