Lorries in Home Zone

Cllr Caroline Pidgeon AM joined local residents in Sutherland Square and representatives from the Iceland Store on the Walworth Road to trial how one of their large lorries can manoeuvre around the square without going up onto the pavements and damaging the flower beds.

The Zone was designed to slow down all vehicles and to allow cars, pedestrians and cyclists to share the road space safely.

Iceland Depot staff came out and helped drive the large lorry using different routes around the square. Following the site visit, a new bell bollard will be installed at one point and all drivers will have clear instructions on how to drive around the square.

"It was great that Iceland has been so cooperative and is helping us resolve this issue. We now need to get all of their suppliers on board with their more rigid lorries. Local residents are disturbed by dangerous and thoughtless driving through the homezone. I hope that we can make the streets safer and quieter working with Iceland and others" commented Caroline.
