Local Lib Dem councillors this week helped secure thousands of pounds of investment for the local communities near the Jam Factory off Tower Bridge Road and at the Shard at London Bridge.
After hard work by local ward members, Southwark's Planning Committee last night approved £600,000 to help local people get jobs in the construction of the Shard. £200,000 was allocated from the Jam Factory development for local training and skills programmes and to improve local open spaces.
Cllr Paul Noblet, Lib Dem Executive member for Regeneration, commented:
"New buildings in the borough need to bring with them opportunities and improvements for local residents. This funding will give local people improvements in their parks and the opportunity to access jobs as part of the development at London Bridge."
