A new alcohol saturation zone in Borough and Bankside is due to be introduced from November to help tackle alcohol related anti social behaviour
After pressure from local Lib Dem councillors in Cathedrals and Chaucer wards, the council's Licensing Committee have agreed to introduce the zone, which has the support of 95% of residents. The terms of the zone mean that unless an applicant for a new license can prove that there will be no increase in crime and anti social behaviour, their application will be refused.
Cllr Linda Manchester, Lib Dem executive member for community safety, said:
"We are determined to tackling anti-social behaviour caused by alcohol. We believe the saturation zone will help improve the area for residents, businesses and visitors alike."
Lib Dem councillor for Chaucer ward, Mackie Sheik, said:
"I am delighted with the introduction of the saturation zone. Residents of the Borough and Bankside area will see this as a very positive action on the part of the council in clamping down on antisocial behaviour and alcohol related crime in the borough."
