Just weeks ago Labour promised to save Maydew House. Now they're set to sell it off to highest bidder.
Southwark Liberal Democrats have today requested that Labour's decision to empty Maydew House be subject to an in depth scrutiny. The request comes after residents of the Rotherhithe tower slammed the council's consultation.
Commenting, Cllr Anood Al-Samerai, Liberal Democrat group leader, said: "Just a few weeks ago Labour were campaigning to save Maydew House from being sold off. Now they are doing the exact opposite and are clearly trying to force residents out. Residents deserve a full and honest dialogue with the council - rather than the spin and flannel they have had from Labour."
Maydew resident, Melanie Devall, added: "It is clear the consultation is flawed and has not been carried in and independent or unbiased way. The questionnaire was clearly designed by the Council to support the decision to empty the block and did not represent the full range of residents' views. We also had insufficient time to respond.
"We are also deeply concerned about the costings used by the council as they are based on just two properties and residents have still not yet received the full breakdown they have requested."
