11.37.00am GMT Wed 2nd Feb 2005

Southwark Council's Liberal Democrat executive last night agreed a massive programme of funding for voluntary and community projects in Camberwell and Peckham. Funding totalling over £1.2m was agreed for organisations such as the Wickway Community Centre on St Georges Way, the Peckham Settlement and the Local Accountancy Project based at the Sojourner Truth Centre on Sumner Road.

Commenting on the allocation of funding, the Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesperson for Camberwell and Peckham, Cllr Richard Porter, said "This allocation of funding reaffirms the commitment of the Liberal Democrats to the not for profit sector in our community. These organisations bring so much to our local community and their contribution to society is immeasurable".
