Calls for independent review into fire safety accepted
Calls by Southwark Liberal Democrats for an ‘independent’ review into Southwark Council’s fire safety and fire risk assessments have been recognised after it was announced that the council has appointed Ben Bradford and his organisation, BB7, to carry out the review.
Responding to the tragic events at Grenfell Tower, Southwark Council committed to reviewing the council’s fire safety policies and procedures. However Southwark Liberal Democrats argued that this review should be carried out independently in order to provide openness and transparency – this view has since been supported by the Labour run council and as a result an independent body has now been appointed to carry out the review.
Southwark Liberal Democrats Group Leader, Councillor Anood Al-Samerai, said:
“After the horrific events at Grenfell Tower, it was only right for Southwark Council to call for a review into fire safety across Southwark. Southwark Liberal Democrats believe to ensure there is openness and transparency that the review should be carried out independently of the council.”
“We are pleased to see our calls have been supported by our Labour colleagues. We will continue to seek for the review to cover all areas of concern, from sprinklers to resident advice, and gathers evidence from a wide range of people.”
