The Department for Transport has announced a capital funding package for Transport for London of £250m over the next financial year.

Commenting, Deputy Leader of the Southwark Liberal Democrats Cllr Rachel Bentley said:

"Once again this Conservative Government has decided to hamstring London's development with inadequate, short term funding for our transport network. This politically motivated decision is bad news especially for the people of Southwark many of whom are already poorly served by London's transport network. The Bakerloo Line won't even be getting the new trains it needs, let alone the extension through Old Kent Road that is key to connecting large parts of the borough.

Southwark Council will have to plug the gap left by this divisive Conservative Government, looking at what green alternatives it can provide to improve travel access for residents."
