A cross-party motion was passed on Wednesday evening enshrining January as Tamil Heritage Month in Southwark for future years.

The Liberal Democrats proposed the motion, voted through by both parties at Wednesday’s Council Assembly, which declared that January will be Tamil Heritage Month in the borough.

Commenting, Cllr Eliza Mann, the Southwark Liberal Democrat who proposed the motion, said:

“After my 20 years as a councillor, I am extremely proud to leave this motion as a legacy. Our vibrant and hard-working Tamil community deserve this celebration of their culture, which will now be enshrined in Southwark’s calendar.”
