Southwark Lib Dems Demand Council Respond to Unacceptable Temporary Accommodation Conditions
Lib Dem councillors demanded that Southwark conduct a survey of its temporary accommodation following a report of residents being housed in dangerous conditions on Walworth Road.
Cllr Emily Tester, housing spokesperson for the Lib Dem group, wrote to Southwark’s CEO to demand it…
- Undertake an immediate survey of the current temporary accommodation in use
- Conduct a review of the council’s processes for selecting premises for temporary accommodation.
This comes after reports that a property used by Southwark as temporary accommodation is in dangerous condition.
Those housed in the property report pest infestations, leaks, damp and a lack of fire safety and security.
Commenting Southwark Lib Dem housing spokesperson Cllr Emily Tester said: "The fact that our council is making vulnerable residents live in these conditions is shocking and unacceptable. At a time where the quality of our housing is, rightly, under heavy scrutiny, Southwark cannot allow people to be put at risk by being housed in dangerous temporary accommodation."
