The Southwark Liberal Democrats on Friday condemned the London Mayor’s decision to snub a building-safety-crisis support hub in his upcoming budget.

Sadiq Khan rejected a Liberal Democrat budget amendment passed by the London Assembly, which proposed funding a building-safety-crisis support hub.

The hub would have helped Londoners affected by the building safety crisis by providing mental health and specialist support using City Hall money.

Commenting, Cllr Hamish McCallum, Southwark Liberal Democrat Group Leader said:

“I feel devastated at the lost opportunity to help residents in desperate need of support in the building safety crisis. The Mayor’s snub shows that, like his colleagues in Southwark Council, he is unable to follow his words with actions. Southwark is heavily affected by the building safety crisis and we once more implore the council to make a difference by boycotting developers who do not aid residents caught in it.”
