Southwark Lib Dems Request Labour Apology on Mould, Damp
The Southwark Liberal Democrats sent a public letter on Thursday to the council leader requesting an apology for mould and damp issues.
This letter, addressed to Southwark Council leader Cllr Kieron Williams, pointed out that a Housing Ombudsman report ranked the authority as one of the worst landlords in England for managing mould or damp.
It asked the leader to follow the lead of Hammersmith and Fulham Council, which recently apologised for its own poor performance in the report.
Labour administrations run both councils.
Commenting, Cllr Hamish McCallum, Southwark Liberal Democrat Group Leader said:
“Southwark Council is letting residents down. Damp, mould and repairs issues are commonplace across our estates and the council is failing to listen and respond to those issues when raised. An apology may not fix these problems. However, it would certainly show to our tenants that Cllr Kieron Williams accepts responsibility for Southwark Council letting them down.”
