Southwark Liberal Democrats Announce Vikas Aggarwal as the Candidate for the Newington By Election
Vikas has lived in Newington for many years and is an active campaigner in the area. He serves as a magistrate in South London and volunteers at a youth club in Southwark.
Upon his selection, Vikas said,
“It’s an honour to be selected as the candidate for Newington, a place I’ve called home for over ten years. I was lucky enough to move here thanks to the hard work of Lib Dem Councillors who fought hard for more affordable housing.
In the time I’ve lived here, not once have I heard from Labour. Not when we’ve been without hot water for days; not when we’ve had phone snatchings on our doorstep; and not when one of our flats went up in flames. We have been ignored and neglected far too often. Too many times we have been fobbed off with excuses.
The fact is, Labour simply don’t care. We need more opposition on the Council to hold Labour to account. As your candidate, I promise to fight hard for the residents of Newington, and to make sure your voice is heard.
Richard Wingfield, Chair of the Southwark Liberal Democrats, said:
“This by election gives a chance for the voters of Newington to have their say on their next councillor. In Vikas, we have a superb candidate who will stand up for the community on the issues that matter to them – such as housing and on community safety – and where people feel let down by a council that no longer listens. Newington has had excellent Liberal Democrat councillors in the past, and we’ll be fighting hard to get Vikas onto Southwark Council”.
